FAQ

Frequently Asked Question

What types of injuries are most common?

Fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains are the most common orthopaedic injuries. Injuries can happen while participating in indoor or outdoor sports, as well as while exercising. Accidents, poor training, improper use of safety gear, and insufficient stretching or warm-up activities can all cause sports injuries. For any orthopaedic injuries consult our Orthopedic doctor in Trivandrum Dr. Ganesh Navaneeedhan for a quicker recovery.

Why is arthroscopy so important?

The first step in diagnosing injury or disease is to take a complete medical history, perform a physical exam, and sometimes have X-rays. Additional tests like an MRI or CT scan may be necessary. An arthroscope can provide a definitive diagnosis that may be more accurate than open surgery or X-rays.

When can I resume my daily activities?

It depends on what type of procedure you undergo. This can vary from a few days up to several months. It can take up to four to six months to return to any activity, sport, or exercise. Your doctor will provide you advice based on your specific health condition.

Is physical therapy required following surgery?

It takes time to get your full range of motion, strength, and flexibility back after surgery. Pre-operative exercise and education, as well as post-operative physical therapy programs are important to help you prepare for surgery and maximize your recovery.

What tests will I need to have my surgery performed?

We request clearances and testing to reduce the risk of surgery. You will need the following information to prepare for surgery:

  • Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP)
  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  • Urinalysis
  • Staph nasal swab
  • If you are diabetic, your hemoglobin A1c must be lower than 7.5
  • Total lymphocyte count and serum albumin (history of malnutrition or bariatric surgery)
  • EKG
  • Chest X Ray
  • Medical Clearance - primary care and cardiology/pulmonology (if applicable)

In preparation for surgery, you may be asked to take additional imaging such as X-rays that include sizing markers and a specialized MRI.
